The final hour

When I sat down to create this piece, I wanted to strip away the noise of traditional depictions and focus entirely on the raw, quiet gravity of the moment. For me, this painting isn’t just about historical events—it’s a deeply personal meditation on sacrifice, absolute surrender, and the quiet dignity found within profound suffering.

I intentionally chose a soft, muted color palette dominated by deep earth tones, moss greens, and weathered golds to give the canvas a timeless, almost ancient weight. By casting the background in shadow and using a subtle glaze over the textures of the cross, I wanted the light to pull your eye directly to the center—guiding you straight into the emotion of the scene.

The anatomy of Christ was painted with careful, deliberate brushstrokes to balance physical vulnerability with spiritual strength.
